About
I’m not a financial celebrity, a YouTube personality, or someone who retired at 40.I’m a regular Canadian man looking at retirement and realizing one important truth: My pension alone wasn’t going to be enough.
Around 2019, after a series of life events — and with the uncertainty that came during COVID — I took a serious look at what my income would actually be 10 years out. The numbers weren’t disastrous, but they were tight enough that I knew I needed another plan.
So I started exploring ways to earn additional income without gambling my retirement savings.
I tried different things:
- Investing in a rental condo
- Running an e-commerce store
- Becoming an Avon distributor
- Driving for DoorDash and SkipTheDishes
Some worked better than others. None were magic. But all of them taught me practical lessons about what it really takes to build income later in life.
Along the way, I also leaned on my background in bookkeeping and income tax preparation, which helped me understand how to set things up properly and avoid costly mistakes.
This guide comes from that experience.
It’s not about hype, overnight success, or risky investments. It’s about realistic, manageable ways to create a second income when you’re 45, 55, or 65 — without betting the future on something you don’t fully understand.
If you’re in that stage of life where retirement is getting closer and the numbers don’t quite feel comfortable, you’re not alone.
This guide is here to help you move forward with a clear head, practical steps, and a plan that fits real life.
